The bill was $400 for 4 people (only two glasses of wine total) and we were definitely underwhelmed. The pork chop and halibut were underwhelming and definitely not worth getting again. The filet mignon was definitely the best entree, cooked beautifully and with excellent seasoning. The cacio e pepe was severely underwhelming and the choice of pasta seemed strange. The best pasta dish was the black spaghetti, with great flavor, texture, and color. The Wagyu meatballs and steak tartar were very good. Our water was rarely refilled and multiple drink orders didn’t come out. Our main server was nice and offered suggestions, but all the food runners and drink servers were clumsy and forgetful. It felt like this restaurant was attempting to be fine dining in NYC but with only a decent menu and very bad service. We have eaten at numerous high end restaurants in New York, Las Vegas, and Italy, and both the food and service at Il Nido was not worth the price. Unfortunately our experience was not great. We came into our evening with high expectations after seeing Joe Rogan’s positive review about this restaurant. That doesn't mean I'm not going back because many restaurants I frequent are at that price level. However, I never rate a restaurant where the bill is over $100 per person a good value, because it's not. I don't mind paying for quality food and service. Overall, the experience was excellent and I would definitely return and try other things. Each had a small scoop of home made ice cream. The torte was more like a dense brownie or fudge, very rich and should be shared. We had the chocolate torte and poached pears. Not bad, but I've had better for less money. The duck was outstanding, the halibut was just average. We had the duck confit cannelloni special and crab crusted halibut. Tender, not overcooked, and great accompaniments. Definitely the best octopus I've had, and I try it at every restaurant I go to. She suggested the octopus over a pasta and she was right. Our server, Lauren, was pleasant and attentive.
